Album of engravings: "ANTIQUITIES OF POMPEII". FIRST VOLUME. Author: Francesco Piranesi (1758/9 - 1810), after Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 - 1778). Contains a total of 36 engraved plates: a frontispiece engraved plate, inscription at the bottom center: "Grand Frontispice du Premier volume des Antiquites de Pompeia / Temple incendie une seconde fois. Guerre des Geants contre Jupiter"; lower left: François Piranesi fecit.; a plate with engraved text: "Table du premier volume des antiquites de Pompeia", inscription at the bottom right: "Md Baud Sculpsit"; 34 engraved plates numbered I - XXXV (plate IV missing) depicting views, plans, ruins, ancient inscriptions. All the plates used for printing the plates have been retouched. Of the 36 engraved plates, 14 are double-sized, printed on two pieces of paper glued together. The album is bound in cardboard covers covered with marbled paper. The volume was part of the collection of Counts Bezborodko and Koucheleff (19th century), a collection partially sold in 1869. Most of this collection was donated to the Academy
