Catalog reference: Romanian Coins and Banknotes (MBR), no. 603. The groschen coins issued by Stephen the Great are relatively rare coins, such emissions are known from a few isolated discoveries located mainly in the Moldovan territory. Compared to the type II groschen, the type I groschen are much rarer issues, which suggests that they were issued in smaller quantities and for a shorter period. The artistic quality is superior, the coin being struck with punches created by experienced engravers, accustomed to the international gothic style, which refines in Moldovan coin art the gothic duct of the legend letters.
