Without envelope [Probably the letter from 31.07.1933 was placed in the same envelope as the one from 05.08] Unsigned letter dated 31.07.1933, Paris, addressed to Florence Meyer. Written with black ink, recto and verso on a thin sheet measuring 28 x 18.7 cm, unfolded. “Paris, July 31, 1933 My dear Florence, I said I am busy with a lot of work and a multitude of things on top of that. You notice how poorly I write. You don’t need to compliment me anymore. Thank you for the photographs – quite good. You are perfectly right when you say that dancers are phenomena and not the result of training. And in all arts, it is exactly the same. School only teaches you what is known. But we continue nonetheless, driven by a new need. And I thought about this inherent necessity when I said we must do what we have to do and not what pleasure might put us in a position to want to do. And this deep need that constantly torments us is like a raw gemstone, which, in order to bring out its value, must be worked with patience and method. Here it is! Mister
