Description

In the exhibition speech of the artist's last retrospective at Art Safari 2021, art critic Călin Stegeresn noted: "Like still lifes, Constantin Piliuță's landscapes are tests of chromatic refinement and sophisticated composition. Through the use of fresh green, the artist evokes the freshness of his native lands: 'I fought to make Bucharest a larger Botoșani,' says the artist at one point. Subtly, Piliuță observed that the same Levantine spirit of relativity and postponement of urgencies characterizes both cities, only the scale differs. The painter frames the banal, everyday landscape, consecrating familiarity. Piliuță gives a punch to the myth of displacement as a motif; his landscapes are composed in the intimacy of the studio. The seasons of these landscapes are mostly just two: the warm one, of exuberant summers, and the cold one. Piliuță, with a confessional sincerity, helps nothing to make this reality anything other than what it is."
