He was born in Brăila, in 1883, and studied at the Bucharest School of Fine Arts, and later at the Julien Academy in Paris, where his professors included William Adolphe Bouguereau, André-Marcel Baschet and Edouard Toudouze, important artists of the 20th century. He was devoted to illustrative depictions, interior portraits, landscapes and still lifes, with an aesthetic tendency that vibrated between Impressionism and Baroque, thus managing to capture the inner realism of his characters by using combined techniques and colour blurs to which he added a hint of reverie. An important spot in his body of work is occupied by graphic illustration, proving his perfectionism even on small areas, showcasing his craft in countless children's storybooks, in Queen Marie's books of fairy tales, in Ion Barbu's poem "După melci" or in the special edition of Mihai Eminescu's "Morning Star".
