Mihalis Garoudis entered artistic life in the mid-1960s. In the 1970s, he emerged as a representative of hyperrealistic painting, along with Dimitar Buyukliyski, Toma Trifonovski, Ivan Dimov, Teofan Sokerov, and others. This line entered powerfully and convincingly in Bulgarian art, parallel to the naïve line. Characteristic of the stylistics of Michalis Garoudis is the construction of photorealistic imagery, accuracy and purity of forms and conventionality of the background. The collage of objects such as dials, stones and other natural materials are characteristic of the artist's style. The composition "Antiquity" is emblematic of the mature work of Michalis Garoudis as a subject and as a plastic construction. Due to complicated life circumstances, he lives in Bulgaria and Greece and is sincerely inspired by ancient culture. In his semi-abstract compositions, natural elements and ancient references are present, combined in a hyper and surreal environment. (S.N.)
