Asen Peykov is an inspiring sculptor who worked in the 1920s - 1960s. He spent most of his life in the area of the city of Rome. There he developed his talent and ideas and left a rich legacy not only of his sculptural works, his collection of paintings, but also a memory of an artist who played a role in the lives of quite a few personalities. In reality, Peikov also helped to establish his brother and sister in Rome. His brother Ilia even followed in his footsteps as an artist, but in the field of painting , being regarded as one of the doyens of space painting. Asen Peykov followed his impulses and established himself as a sculptor in the Italian capital. The most famous and perhaps the largest project is the sculpture of Leonardo da Vinci (from the 1960s ), which greets arrivals at Rome's Fiumicino Airport. Asen Peykov has already established himself in his studio on "Marguta" street, where many studios of artists of the period were located, he is surrounded by an artistic environment that enriches and stimulates him. From the 40s of the 20th century, the Bulgarian in Rome gained popularity as a master of sculptural portraits and received numerous commissions. He made portraits of prominent Italian intellectuals, as well as a number of world-famous personalities. His models are Giorgio de Chirico, President Kennedy, actresses Sophia Loren, Ava Gardner, the great Italian film director Federico Fellini, the discoverer of penicillin Alexander Fleming and many others. The work "Head of a Boy" is most likely a commissioned portrait, but impresses with its artistc expressiveness. Peikov, who works in a country like Italy, where artistic pursuits are in constant exchange, he also remains faithful to academicism. His professor at the Art Academy in Sofia is Andrey Nikolov, who undoubtedly influenced the formation of the sculptor's creative concepts and aesthetic views. "Against the background of everything that was happening in Italian and European art during those decades, his work was traditional. It could easily be proved that some of his busts were academic, that others were rather idealized, especially those rendered in marble, that whole groups of them repeated similar or identical stylistic intonations. However, Peykov had set himself the task not just to experiment, but to create - to make his spiritual investments in the common artistic bank of the time, without being tormented by the thought that he was holding fake currency in his hands".
