PROVENANCE

Collection of Valko Gaidarov (1937-2009), among the founders and first director of Art Gallery - Smolyan (1971-2003) The painting was purchased from the studio of Genko Genkov during the 80s of the 20th century.

The painting "Landscape in Pink" is emblematic of Genko Genkov's mature work from the 1970s. It is related to some of the highest achievements in the artist's overall creative output. Genko Genkov graduated with a degree in "Painting" from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Sofia under Prof. Dechko Uzunov. He primarily works in the landscape genre. He is an author with a marked individual style and a strong presence in the national plastic arts of the second half of the 20th century. In his early works from the late 1950s and early 1960s, his painting is delicate and chamber-like. In the following decades, Genko Genkov created landscape compositions in bright color combinations. The construction of forms through expressive contour, dramatic stroke, conditional and synthetic form is characteristic of the artist's mature work. "Landscape in Pink" possesses all the characteristic features of the mature period, namely: a plot that includes a natural landscape and architectural elements; a color gamut built on the principle of contrast between warm orange and red tones, and cool violet and ultramarine; dynamically placed texture with varying degrees of impasto layering and various directions of brush movement. As a total color and plastic construction, we can classify "Landscape in Pink" among the most characteristic works for the style of Genko Genkov. A compositionally structured piece similar to "Boats" from the 1970s, Ley., 80.5 x 94 cm, is in the collection of Boyan Radev. (S.N.)
