At the age of 30, Constantin Isachie enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, at a rather old age for a newcomer in the world of art. He studied in the painting class of G.D. Mirea, one of the most respected of the professors at the Academy. A graduate of Law School (who practiced law in Constanţa), Isachie reoriented his options and persevered on this new road. After finishing his studies in the country he left for Paris, and in 1924 he was in London, driven by the same thirst of knowledge. His official debut in Romanian artistic life took place in one of his visits in the country, and he was noticed by the press of the time after the exhibition at the Athenaeum in 1924. A constant presence among the Artistic Youth throughout the interwar period, Isachie made his debut at the society's exhibitions in 1925. The painter did not leave out the Official Salon either, and he received an award after his successive participations in the exhibitions of Bucharest. At the peak of his career, he was one of the most popular portrait painters in the interwar period, competing on an equal footing against Eustațiu Stoenescu. This gave him a certain financial ease, which could be seen from his frequent travels all around Europe. By observing a classic compositional recipe, reminiscent of British portraitists (Whistler), Isachie Popescu creates with virtuosity an impressive series of portraits of the Romanian high society, completing thus an exceptional career.
