The painting "Trees in Blue" is one of Genko Genkov's most memorable canvases. It is emblematic of the artist's style from the late 1970s and early 1980s and refers to one of the highest achievements in his entire work. Genko Genkov creates landscape compositions in bright color combinations. The construction of forms through expressive contour, dramatic brushwork, conventional and synthetic form is characteristic for the mature work of the artist. The painting "Trees in Blue" captivates the viewer with its sonorous color, the light emitted by the colors and the energy with which the bright band-like strokes are applied. It has all the characteristic marks of the mature period, namely: a plot representing a natural landscape; colorful range built on the principle of contrast between warm orange and cold blue tones; dynamically applied invoice with varying degrees of pasty layering of the paint; bright color values of the dye that create a stained glass effect. The painting surface is enriched with strokes that the author scratches on the oil paint with a knife or comb. He has been using this technique since the late 1950s. As a complete color and plastic construction, we can count "Trees in Blue" among the most characteristic and impactful works of Genko Genkov. The painting was gifted by Genko Genkov to his relatives after participating in his solo exhibition in Sofia in the mid-1980s. (S.N.)
