The painting is monographed in Krustev, Kiril, "Bencho Obreshkov," Bulgarian Artist, 1982, p. 233. no. 484, with the title "Still Life with Fruit Bowl"
The painting "Still Life with Fruit Bowl" is emblematic of Bencho Obreshkov's style. The genre of still life is one of the artist's most preferred. Throughout his creative career, he created still lifes in which he addressed various plastic challenges, with main objects including vases with flowers, fruits, and fish, placed within interior spaces.
The 1940s were a pivotal decade for Bulgaria and for the personal fate of artists. In painting, some characteristic features of the 1930s still persisted, particularly the influence of Expressionism and new objectivity. "Still Life with Fruit Bowl" was created after Bencho Obreshkov's return from a creative assignment in Romania in 1946. The works from this period were exhibited at the Bulgarian-Romanian exhibition in Bucharest and Sofia in 1947. Following this visit, the color palette in his paintings became richer and more intense. The artist confidently entered the mature phase of his creative work.
In 1948, Bencho Obreshkov painted the remarkable "Still Life with Fruit Bowl," executed entirely in the spirit of 1930s painting. The color is expressive, the brushwork is free and bold, and the still life is set within an interior space suggested by a colorful curtain
