In 1961, Paul Vasilescu graduated from the Bucharest Academy of Art, under the careful guidance of Boris Caragea. The artist got noticed both on exhibitions in Romanian art galleries, as well as within international exhibition spaces. Throughout his career, his artistic accomplishments were recognised with numerous awards. The coordinates of his work are divided amongst portraits, monumental sculpture or experimental creation with an abstract nuance. Amongst the monumental works exhibited in the public space, we mention: Nichita Stănescu's bust statue in Bucharest, the statue of Petru II of Moldavia in Suceava, or the "Eroica" statue on Calea Lipovei, in Timișoara. When it comes to portraits, he uses the psychological nature of the fantastic, which he manages to inoculate to his small-sized statuary compositions as well. His constructivist interests, full of poetic subtlety, are transposed into statuary assemblies, in which straight lines are dominant. Anti-rhetoric and programmatic, Paul Vasilescu adheres to dogmas and canons which he does not find the courage to leave, hence keeping an almost sacred relationship with the art he creates.
