Mimi's projects arise from the desire to enrich the everyday space with special, secret, personal meanings. Mimi is a colourful character who loves kitsch in all its manifestations. She currently lives and creates in Bucharest. The idea for the project originates from the artist's interest in kitsch aesthetics and camp sensibility. The works in the "Killer Klowns" project were inspired by the film "Killer Klowns from Outerspace" (1988). The artist was drawn to both the story of the film and the portrayal of the clowns as they provide her with an excellent lead in addressing and debating the aesthetic issue that concerns her. The wrinkled faces and sharp-toothed mouths of the clowns contrast sharply with the pastel tones used for the costumes and spaceship. They are harmless but murderous, adorable but scary, delicate but aggressive. The artist's interpretation of the theme is ironic, but appearances are often deceptive. Clowns can deceive but they can be exactly what they seem. They can fire pink plastic guns, killing. It is up to everyone to decide what happens next: clowns kill for real or are just colourful buffoons.
