Mint area: Histria, today's Romania. Circulation area: The Black Sea Coast. Possible discovery site: Northern Greece, Eastern Bulgaria, Eastern Romania, Northern Turkey. Conservation status: good. Histria is the oldest city on the current territory of Romania, founded in 650-630 BC by traders from Miletus, to facilitate exchanges with the Getae tribes. Histria began minting its own currency in 480 BC, copying Greek drachmas. At the time, the value of the coin was given by its material content, so recognizing and using a certain coin in a larger area did not pose problems.
