The original work, today included in a private collection, was created by Salvador Dali in 1934, when the artist and his wife were on one of their first visits to the United States of America. With a recurring presence in his work during the '30s, the egg became the central element of this piece, seizing a significant portion of the canvas. The element is depicted here in the process of hatching, yet the specific surrealist manner captures the so-called "birth" of a distorted airplane, leaving behind, in the cracks of the shell, the shape of a map. We are predominantly talking about the map of North America, while South America stands out a bit lower, in golden tones.
