The eponymous work, dedicated to the American actress and singer Mae West, was born in 1935, when the artist, inspired by the protagonist's photograph found in a newspaper, conceived a mixed-media work that combined several elements. Starting, again, from a Freudian theory, Salvador Dali will represent the woman as a welcoming and warm space - an ideal/ idealized room. Thus, he transformed the actress's face into a real apartment, proposing decorative motifs as elements of the face. Fascinated by his own creation, he later transposed the concept on a much larger scale, creating the "Mae West" room in his museum in Figueras.
