The frontline diary belonged to lieutenant Barbu Macovescu and covers the period from October 1942 to April 1945, otherwise said part of the Romanian army campaign in the East and part of the military campaign in the West against Nazi Germany. Pages are written in different types of ink in a double-sided dictation notebook. The author has constantly but not daily recorded aspects of life on the battlefront, such as mentions regarding the units under his command, the relationship with the subordinate military and with the superiors, fragments of daily life. The actual battles are remembered with reluctance, probably because of military secrecy. There are emotional reactions to certain moments lived on the frontline or in the recovery areas. At the end of the notebook we find some notes in Russian, written in a different spelling, probably lines left as a souvenir by Soviet officers with whom he fought in the West. The piece has historical, memorial, documentary and collectible value. The notebook is accompanied by a cabinet-type photograph of the author in military uniform, probably taken before he left for the front.
