Grigore Leșe graduated from the Music High School in Baia Mare, then the Music Academy in Cluj - Faculty of Instruments and Singing (bassoon). In 2003, he obtained a PhD in Music and in 2010, he was awarded an honorary degree from the Western University "Vasile Goldiș" in Arad. Since 2005, he is an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Bucharest. He is the first musician from our country who brought traditional artists from Iran, Syria, Armenia, Pakistan on stage, demonstrating the interferences of ancient music from Romania and the East. His music can be found on the soundtrack of several art and documentary films, from home and abroad, such as The Pharaon, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, a BBC production or the documentary Wild Carpathia, produced by Travel Channel. Both through one-man shows and complex performances, in which he uses vocal groups, theater troupes, or contemporary dance, Grigore Leșe offers a different approach to folklore, by returning to the archetype.
