The fifth edition of the Men's Handball World Championship took place between March 6 and March 15, 1964 in Czechoslovakia. The Romanian team won the championship on March 15, 1964 after defeating the Swedish team with a score of 25-22, and became world champions for the second time. According to the press of the time, the Romania-Sweden final "was a high-class spectacle, both teams having a sensational performance, but Romania won, being more sure of itself at the end of the game" (Sport Tribune Berlin). "Dramatic in the evolution of the score, with an apocalyptic ending, the game was devoid of harshness and blind clenching, a splendid game. Many congratulations to the Romanian team, who deserved this new title! Congratulations to the Swedish team as well," wrote Dagens Myhetr Stockholm.
