Adrian Bucurel Ilie was a member of the national team for about 10 years, playing as a striker. At club level, Ilie played for Electroputere Craiova (1992-1993), Steaua Bucharest (1993-96), Galatasaray (1996-1998), Valencia (1998-2002), Alavés (2002-03), Beșiktaș (2004) and FC Zurich (2004-2005). He played at the European Football Championship in 1996, at the World Cup in 1998, and at the European Football Championship in 2000.
