Especially in the early creation of Ion Theodorescu-Sion, we encounter the influence of artists that he had the opportunity to admire in his wanderings through the world's museums. Thus, his painting approaches that of Derain or Cézanne, from where he takes the penchant for symbol and constructivism, easy to identify and intuit throughout his entire work. Made in 1926, the work in question belongs to a period of search, in which the artist explores multiple variations of the theme of static nature. Some compositions from this period of his artistic creation are dynamic and expressive, others poetic and introspective, but all betray his concern for deciphering the geometric forms of nature and integrating traditional Romanian motifs - vessels, jugs, embroidery - implicitly the desire to express the national specificity. Thus, through the ease of plastic expression, through chromatic consistency and through clear marking of the contours, "Still Life with Cyclamen and Apples" presents a narrow frame, which captures the viewer's attention. To intensify the power of expressiveness, the artist accentuates the light and shadows using specific chiaroscuro techniques.
