Ioan Borcea (1879-1936), to whom Antipa gifted the volume, was a zoologist, founder of oceanography as a modern science in Romania, member of the Romanian Academy and colleague with Grigore Antipa. On the first page, next to the holograph dedication signed by Grigore Antipa, and on the title page, there is a stamped ex libris of the author's friend and colleague's daughter. The binding, of its time, has suffered the effects of time passing.
