Maxim Liulca’s aesthetics set us thinking of the purest form of abstractionism. Shapes and colours lose their meaning and purpose, as these are mere superficial means to express and materialize "the visible". Visual perception and how it can be transferred to the canvas underly the core of Liulca’s artistic creation, one that seduces with its simplicity and clarity. The artist never sought to justify or to provide ample descriptions of his works, as he believed that it is redundant and artificial to assign symbols to shapes that are already sufficient, by merely existing. Symbolic assignations transform the painting into a sociological manifesto, a matter with which the artist profoundly disagrees. For him, painting is about the pigment, about the visual, about the image in itself, which delights the eye by its mere existence.
