Performing in the real domain, the artist Piliuță will be venturesome as regards the concerns of his age, using the workmanship as a means of connecting the viewer and the tumultuous contemporary events. Starting from the 50s, genre scenes are a prominent presence in his creation, in which the artist illustrates social aspects of village life. Permeated by veridical realism, irony and sober attitudes, the scenes acquire anecdotical features. Motifs such as the alehouse, the pub, the wedding, the fiddlers, the singers become preferred subjects in this period. (G.M.)
