Suggestively titled after his ultimate settlement on French soil, the work "Fleurs de bonheur" is representative of the abstract, avant-garde style adopted by Alexandru Istrati. His art is non-figurative, subjective, progressive, typified by innovation and experimentation. "Fleurs de bonheur" features a panoply of colour lines and dots, an amalgam of emotions rendered through suggestions of geometric shapes and colour juxtapositions. In Romania, Istrati studied law and then painting, under the guidance of Camil Ressu. Alexandru Istrati's art was awarded the Kandinsky prize in 1953. In addition to the countless international exhibitions in which the artist's works were exhibited, it is also worth mentioning his friendship with Brâncuși, whom, together with his wife, looked after until the end of his life.
