Based on the premise that "painting is the sole means through which the visceral nature of the world can be expressed" and using a Brownian motion dictated by his inner states, Adrian Ghenie paints a sometimes brutal art, inspired by history and the feelings stirred up by Eastern Europe. In 2015, Adrian Ghenie represents Romania at the Venice Biennale with the work "Darwin's Room". He enjoys a wide representation both in the country and abroad, and his works are included in collections such as: the Georges-Pompidou National Centre for Art and Culture in Paris, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Malaga Contemporary Art Centre, The Hammer Museum Los Angeles. The artist’s canvases render his vulnerabilities, frustration or desire. He depicts the subconscious and almost choreographically uses a dark, brutal chromatic. His works capture the figurative, but the artist does not hesitate to use the obscure, both by changing the focal point and by representing characters without particular features. Adrian Ghenie’s canvases incorporate the cinematic through the use of light and textures.
