The composition is carried out on two registers: On the upper side, Elijah is raised to heaven in a golden carriage pulled by two winged horses, holding in one hand the reins and the whip, being crowned by an angel and blessed by the Saviour, bust representation, holding the globe of power, both emerging from a gathering of clouds. At the bottom, Elisei appears twice: praying to the prophet and pulling the cloak, then showing the received robe. The background suggests a field – comprised of curved, chromatically alternating strips – in the lower register, as well as the sky – in the upper register, with sprinkled flowers and stars. A border surrounds the scene on three sides, comprised of chromatically alternating oblique bands and lines. (M.B.)
