Ion Călugăru (1902-1956), unul dintre cei mai cunoscuți scriitori de avangardă de la noi, a publicat în 1926 lucrarea de față, a treia din punct de vedere cronologic pentru opera sa. Poate că cele câteva rânduri scrise la începutul piesei ''Prințul papal'', cuprinsă în volum, sunt autobiografice: ''.....reporter monden, calendarist, epos popular, profet''.
