Large photograph showing Queen Maria of Romania with her daughter, Princess Maria (Mignon), the future Queen of Yugoslavia. The photo, taken at the Cotroceni Palace, is accompanied by the Queen's handwritten signature. This is what Queen Mary said about Princess Marie in her autobiography "The Story of My Life": "I foresaw that my third child would be a child of tears, for at that time there was not a night when I did not fall asleep crying. But my predictions failed when our little girl was born in Gotha on January 9, 1900, for from day one she was a child of joy and sunshine. This miracle had come to pass; cheerful, smiling, and astonishingly sweet from earliest childhood, she was more than a comfort to me, she was a revelation, and I loved her with a love that cannot be described; I could not let her out of my sight for a moment, she was to me a solace of peace and hope."
