Theodor Aman represents for the history of Romanian plastic art the first modern artist in the true sense of the word, influencing and accelerating, at the same time, through his work in the United Principalities of Moldavia and the Romanian Country, the opening towards modernity and artistic institutional development until the outbreak of the Russian-Turkish War in 1877.
