Leo Bachelin, King Charles I's librarian, published this remarkable work, the Catalogue raisonné of the royal art collection, at the sovereign's request. The edition is particularly important both for the valuable information it provides and in terms of the outstanding graphic design that makes it a collector's item. The richly decorated covers are pegamoid, the flyleaf is the original and the edge is gilt. The spine has been remade and on the first page the title shows attempts to remove the name of King Charles I, probably to avoid confiscation by the Communists.
