The work, published by Abbé Bellegarde in 1731 in Paris, was one of the most famous guidebooks for religious life in the French Catholic world in the 18th century. The copy has vintage leather covers with gilded edge and the spine divided into six cartouche designs decorated with a lily, the coat of arms of France. On the main cover are the two royal cyphers, that of King Louis XIV and of his successor to the throne, Louis XV, who patronised the publication of this and later editions.
