On the golden background of the icon, Virgin Mary is depicted up to the waist. She holds the Child on her right arm, holding Him with both hands. The head bent towards the Child and the thoughtful gaze are characteristic attributes of the Eleusa type. The traditional maforion is changed with a red violaceous pelerine covering her head, falling on her shoulders in soft folds, being pinned to her chest with a golden brooch. On the Christ Child, the traditional chiton is replaced by a tunic, typical of the Renaissance, painted in green with gold motifs and the red-grey himation is hrisographed according to tradition. The features of the Virgin's face vaguely remind of Byzantine painting typology, but the model of the face is made in the spirit of Italo-Venetian painting. The features of the face of the child Jesus still retain the typology characteristic of Byzantine painting, but the facial expression has lost the mature seriousness of the Child Jesus. Another Western influence is the fact that the Child Jesus, when blessing, holds the cruciferous globe and not the traditional rotulus.
