Octavian Angheluță is remarked in local art as a representative of traditional realism, through the rigour of his drawing and the expressiveness of his chromatic palette. He impresses with the methodical ordering of his compositions and harmonious combinations of shapes and colours. As a high school student, he participated in a Young Artists competition with an impressive number of works and was rewarded with a national prize. From this period onwards he shows a particular analytical ability, by intuitively deciphering the physiognomy of his characters and by the incisive assurance of his graphic duct. His continuous passion for knowledge and improvement will transpose into studies of psychology, which will provide the artist with the necessary tools for a substantial analysis of his models. His appetite for the human being and its complex intellectual enclosures will be transcribed in his approach to portrait as a favourite genre of his art. A painter of a serious, lyrical nature, Angheluță will always create starting from the motif, so he will often paint portraits of his colleagues or of valuable cultural personalities. In this work, the artist captures on canvas, as we are used to, the portrait of Simone Cioculescu, through the tonic atmosphere of the colour chords: researcher, literary historian, translator and editor. She enters the famous Cioculescu family through marriage and declares about them that they "identify with the very universe of Romanian literature". Simona Cioculescu goes to the Faculty of Letters in Bucharest and studies Czech language. She is awarded a scholarship to Prague, where she meets the writer Milan Kundera, whose work she would translate in the future. She continues to write him and receives his books with dedication. Back in the country, she follows the path of literature and devotes her entire life to research.
