Jean Vaillant was one of the great French friends of the Romanian Pașoptist generation, which he supported in his efforts to organize the Revolution of 1848 and to build a modern state based on new principles linked to liberal and national ideology. He published in France a propaganda work in favour of the Romanians entitled "La Romanie", and not "La Roumanie" as it would have been grammatically correct, because he wanted to emphasize the Latin, and therefore noble, origin of the Romanians. This dictionary is a pioneering work, both linguistically and in terms of the support of the cause of Romanians by French friends of the time.
