Strongly realistic, vigorous and vivid, Octav Băncilă's painting sheds light on the authentic aspects of his time, in addition to the artistic value, presenting a social and historical interest. A special place in his creation is taken by works inspired by the life of gypsies, often evoking scenes with nomadic chariots scouring the far away distances, and numerous portraits of scholars, witches, fortune tellers, etc. Thus, in his pilgrimages we meet "Aglaia" (1907), "Talpa Iadului" (1913) or "Stănică" (1914) (GM)
