Identification elements of an iconographic and stylistic order: The icon is a festal and was part of the festal row of an iconostasis, of which seven have been preserved in the collection. The title of the scene, written on the icon, is the popular form "Birth of The Most Holy". In this case too, the anonymous painter rendered the scene resorting to the maximum simplification of the compositional elements. Against the blue background of the icon, conventional architectures stand out. The scene of the Birth of the Virgin Mary unfolds symmetrically: on the left, Saint Anne is depicted in half, suggesting she is lying on the bed, and in front of her, on the right, stands Saint Joachim. Between them, the Infant Mary is depicted, lying down. In the lower part of the icon, a seated woman who watches over the lying child is represented. Noteworthy are the epic episodes rendered with synthetic means. The composition and chromatic scheme resemble the ones of the previous icons from the same series. Technical identification elements: The icon's wooden support, formed from a single board, is reinforced at the back with a median crosspiece. Conclusions: The painting of the icon, like the previous ones, fits into the style of post-Brâncovenesc painting, in its evolution from the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the next, with the presence of elements of rustic painting being notable (A.D.).
