Being prepared, in his childhood years, by Master Grigorescu, Nicolae Vermont would demonstrate a particular enthusiasm from the very beginning. He would study at the Bucharest School of Fine Arts (1881-1886), together with Ștefan Luchian, Dimitrie Serafim, Constantin Aricescu, Frederic Storck, as well as at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts (1887-1895). He would stand out with a varied repertoire, approaching a wide range of genres such as portrait, landscape, composition or genre painting. In the case of genre painting, which was easily remarkable since the first decades of his creation, the artist would reveal a notable variety of subject matters. From scenes inspired by the lives of peasants, workers, emigrants and nomad gypsies, to scenes inspired by the life of the bourgeoisie, his subject matters would demonstrate a strong intimist character, emphasized by the sensitivity and finesse of interpretation, together with a harmonious chromatic.
