PROVENANCE

historical collection of engineer Leon Laserson (1887 - 1946). Leon Laserson, born in Riga, Latvia, established in Romania, in 1919 and would soon become one of the main players in the petroleum industry. He was an engineer for two companies, "Concordia", Morenai and "Steaua Română", before opening his own business, in 1938, with his brother, importing petroleum equipment. A career that made him one of the most active art collectors in the 40's and 50's. Between 1930-1945 he collected an impressive number of artworks from Romanian painters - Petrașcu, Iser, Pallady, Ciucurencu, just to name a few - his collection becoming "the most highbrow art collection in Bucharest, today" as the painter Corneliu Baba stated in 1945. He met Theodor Pallady at the art critic Ionel Jianu's suggestion, in 1939, as soon as the painter returned definitively in the country. Soon, he became, not only an adamant Pallady collector, but also the painter's close friend; private Romanian collection, Czech Republic.
