In Romanian painting, Marius Bunescu will be known in particular for his landscape technique. His numerous journeys which he made served as inspiration for a long series of works he grouped, thematic, in several exhibitions. His work will gradually move from Munich academic realism to French impressionism. His encounter with the works of artists such as Van Gogh, Cézanne and Delacroix opened the way for him to approach a new pictorial manner and a different chromatic palette from the one he had used before. Thus, his characters acquire a special presence and a more serious air, revealed by the chromatic register based on cold colours. The brushwork of the pen and the certainty of the line are still reminiscent of the academicism learned at the Munich school. In the works centred around characters, the artist sketches the physiognomies of those close to him. Sometimes, we will identify his wife, Magda, and other times his son. (in the work "The Boy with the Golden Horse"). His main muse will remain the female character captured in meditative attitudes ("On the terrace by the Sea"), bent over a letter (in the present work), or doing household activities ("Sewing"). Although they scarcely appear in his work, this type of compositions are charged with a realistic lyricism. The artist usually describes a defining characteristic of his protagonists and focuses his entire work around it. He focuses on the harmonious contact between the elements and integrates them in a cursive manner in the economy of the proposed theme.
