In addition to the important achievements in the painting domain, Mihai Sârbulescu will teach, successively, at the Academy of Arts in Bucharest, at the Ludwig Forum in Aachen, Germany and at the University of Arts in Bucharest, in the Painting section. He ventures in the transposition of landscapes on canvas: Central squares in Sibiu or Brașov, mosques, gates, houses or even the castle of Queen Marie in Balchik, but he will also be concerned with rendering the intimate atmosphere of interiors. The piano, the leitmotiv we often encounter in his work, takes on a symbolic function, and can even be interpreted in a personal note, of a half-fulfilled passion of the artist - who, having some regrets that he painted instead of making music, acquires a piano at the end of his university studies. His attempts to learn how to play overlap with the one to understand the background of musical composition, but he will not succeed in the music domain. Balchik is also another recurring motif in the work of the artist who participated in the already well-known project "Today's Painters in Balchik", a project that offers artists the ideal framework to approach in their own contemporary way a theme that has become a classic in the history of Romanian art. Mihai Sârbulescu has participated since his creation in the events proposed by the Prolog group, which did not aim to follow a particular ideology, but was simply a joint work of artists in solidarity with each other, by nature or by faith. In addition to the above mentioned themes, floral elegies are also another of the artist's interests, capturing entire fields dedicated to flowers, wreaths decorating courtyards, apple branches, fleur-de-lis or irises. The iris becomes the sample of hope, trust and wisdom, being associated, throughout history, even with royalty - especially in France or Italy.
