A recurring theme in Șerban Savu's work is that of a solitary figure, defined by social status and profession, a figure who dominates the setting in which they are placed. Normally, his small-scale works focus around this singular character and a single observation that can be deduced from the chosen decor and character. In the current work, the characters seem caught in a moment of immobility, appearing lost and disconnected from their job routine. The viewer does not query about these symbol-characters, why they are at that specific location, how they got there or what exactly they are doing, but rather the viewer's curiosity is linked to the quality of the experience the characters live. "The Patrol painting represents a seemingly ordinary genre scene, where two police officers uncover a snake in the light of their flashlight. It is one of those moments which I like to call myth initiators, a moment when reality encounters something that can divert logic and thus initiate an imagined journey."
