Kandinsky held that the emotions generated by a work of art are in fact related to perception, to the way in which colours can influence state of mind. Yellow has a disturbing potential, whereas blue predisposes to meditation and clam. Kandinsky’s theories on colours are quite similar to Goethe’s: colour has the capacity to place the viewer in direct connection with their state of mind. Teodora Gavrilă’s personal exhibition, "Loud Silence of Colours" (Etaj Artist-Run Space, Bucharest, 2019) confirmed this theory. Generally, her works invite for a stroll in the world of the imaginary, a parallel reality in which fluid forms are biomorphic representations. The exploitation of the subconscious and of colours allows us to transpose visions into familiar visual systems. Starting from the title of the work, we can consider the work included in the current auction a futuristic interpretation of the biblical motif of the "forbidden fruit", the apple, whose consumption later generated human knowledge.
