In his book, "Blue: The History of a Colour", Michel Pastoureau proves, following the historic historical trail of this colour, that cultural perception is what defines the role of a colour in society. Being a colour that was difficult to obtain, it is only towards the end of the 18th century that blue triumphs in the colour preferences of Europeans. Around 1700, a chemist discovers, absolutely by chance, that Prussian blue, which will exert a profound fascination upon entire generations of painters. Vermeer, Hokusai, Van Gogh or Picasso, all the great artists put blue in the spotlight. Matisse said: "A certain blue enters your soul." For Sabin Bălașa, blue is not just any colour, it is light, it symbolizes the divinity, the Cosmos, the Source of all things, it gives us "the feeling of eternity". "Galactic Journey" takes the shape of a fairy-tale storyline, exploring the native myths, legends, and folklore from the painter’s creations, as well as an initiation ritual which invites us to access "the inner eye" and to connect to the Cosmos. The characters, whether human or animal, come from a distant, ancestral past, and live in each one of us through the feminine and masculine archetypes we manifest. Youth is the binding agent of harmony and of the continuity of creation. The characters are intense, lively, sensuous, and spirited, captured in a cosmic flight (an initiation ritual). His female characters can be considered Mothers, Goddesses, Muses, supporting the "harmony of the world". Invertebrate, floating, young, and sensuous, they originate from an archetypal memory, of a world populated by these flawless beings a long time ago. Nudity is released from the contemporary handcuffs and stigmatization, and it is seen from a primary, natural point of view. The work included in the current auction is accompanied by an incredible story of hope, being generously donated by Sabin Bălașa, in a televised show, to a child who was extremely talented at music, but who was an orphan. Born on the second day of Christmas, in 2000, the current owner of the work was raised by a foster carer until the age of 10, when he ended up in an orphanage. Sabin Bălașa offered him this work out of the desire to help the young artist fulfil his dream after coming of age.
