A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts from Iași (1939-1944) and of the Superior School of Arts from Bucharest (1946-1948), the artist Gheorghe Șaru makes his debut with a figurative painting, having as object folkloric and social themes. Later, he directs his attention to a stage of profound geometrization of the image, targeting construction and analysis. He has personal exhibitions in Bucharest (1956, 1960, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1981) and Moscow (1959), also participating in the annual and biennial group exhibitions, in the municipal and republican shows. Being a decorative spirit, the artist becomes a complex interpreter of the real, depicted and essentialized down to the limits of the primordial shapes. Guided by complex compositional issues, the artist pursues a construction adequate for the relations between forms and surfaces. The colour scheme, a defining element for his creation, will be subject to a balance and logic of ideas. Founded on austere, accurate consonances, it will provide a harmonious compositional balance, along with a refined and precise drawing of shapes, reduced to signs. (GM)
