Andrei Cădere’s status as an outsider, which he felt throughout his artistic career, was, in fact, a catalyst of his artistic existence, a fact noticed in his works, as well as in his social journey. Nevertheless, this perpetual marginalization was assumed by the artist, through the subversion he evinced when faced with the cultural stereotypes and the contemporary artistic concepts. However, minimalist and conceptual art enabled the artist to shape his own artistic system, via which he managed to combine a multitude of ideas, which other artists expressed individually, remaining, at the same time, true to his autonomy. The wooden bar devised by Cădere could be regarded as an object intended to "put spokes in the wheels" of everyone involved in that stereotype-based artistic system. A good example is the Kassel moment: Andrei Cădere is invited by Harald Szeemann to take part in "documenta 5" in 1972, but on one condition, namely reproducing the Brâncuși myth, covering the entire distance from Paris to Kassel on foot, carrying the bar with him. He initially accepts the challenge but, along the way, he transforms his commitment into a farce, arriving by train. With this subversive act, Cădere demonstrated his autonomy from artistic authority and showed that he, the artist, is the only one who can decide how his creation is represented and exhibited. Andrei Cădere managed to leave the mark of his conceptual style in painting, as well, which material also when he conceived his wooden items. Like these, the pictorial world created by Cădere is profoundly abstract, everything is reduced to a simple, but pure geometric form.
