Research information

Rossen Toshev remains faithful to photorealism, and the coexistence of his images and texts continues to be one of the most engaging intellectual and visionary “windows” opened before the viewer who is captivated by the objective value of his masterful brushwork. He is one of the contemporary masters of photo- and hyperrealist painting. His art is deeply thought-out and connected to a long and precise technological process. Realist painting has deep roots in art history, but in his case, it is linked to comics, photography, and 20th-century contemporary art. The transformation of prosaic subjects into significant ones, along with the deliberate act of profanation, introduces irony and shifts the perspective—exaggerating the realistic to the point of critical reflection.
