History leaves the memory of a solar destiny, of a hero named Liviu Corneliu Babeș, this "living torch of the Brașov revolution", a true Jan Palach of Romania. The Czech student had set himself on fire in January 1969 in protest at the invasion of his country by Warsaw Treaty troops to quell what became known as the "Prague Spring". After the repression of the movement of November 15, 1987 in Brașov, Liviu Corneliu Babeș radicalised his protest, eventually choosing the ultimate sacrifice. On March 2, 1989, he set himself on fire while skiing down the "Bradul" slope in Poiana Brașov, burning like a torch. He left a note in Romanian and German at the sacrifice site, attached to the bark of a tree: "Opriți moartea! Brașov = Auschwitz!" ("Stop death! Brașov = Auschwitz!")
