Mythology and literature are recurrent sources of inspiration in Geta Brătescu's creation, with references from Samuel Beckett to Aesop. But the motif that most often visits the artist's work is the figure and name of the mythological character Medea. In the artist's mental space, the woman is a creator, and Medea's personality is the one that best fits the artist's beliefs. "Medea represents extremes, love and hate. There is no middle ground with Medea. She is a special woman," explained the artist. The anti-female character in Euripides' eponymous tragedy, Medea is the one who kills her own children to punish her husband's betrayal. But Euripides' tragedy presents only half of the story, after Medea is left by Jason, without giving the complex portrait of the woman.
