Hans Mattis Teutsch, a representative of the 20th century, distinguished himself in the art world starting with 1907, when he participated at the National Salon in Budapest. He studied sculpture, which he was to practice a lot during his first creative period, between 1897 and 1901 at the State Vocational School for Wood and Stone in Brașov. During the same period, he also frequented the studio of Friedrich Miess (1854-1935) and Arthur Coulin (1869-1912). He later attended the Royal National School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest (1901-1902) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1902-1905), where he studied sculpture with professors Wilhelm von Rümann (1850-1906) and Balthasar Schmitt (1858-1942). Between 1905 and 1908, he lived in Paris, where he undertook free art studies. He will begin with a stylized sculpture, organically modelled along the way in an expressionist language, in which we will often notice the presence of female silhouettes, captured by the artist in meditative poses, as well as decorative works, floral ornaments, decorative figures, male silhouettes etc. (GM).
